Cave of the Winds

I've always wanted to go spelunking, Cave of the Winds is the first real cave I've been in. I first went on my first trip to Colorado Springs. I saw the regular tour at that time. This trip we did not take the beautiful tour — we took the Lantern Tour, which was through deeper, larger, more pristine caves that were said to be haunted — and my camera's batteries died shortly after I got in (thanks a lot, ghosts!), so I only got a few photos myself (though my dad got some photos). They are not here yet because they are on another day (tickets are not taken in advance and we couldn't get the tours we wanted when we first went) and I haven't gotten to those photos yet ... you know what they say, "one day at a time".

Entrance to Cave of the Winds. (Our official tour begins beyond this, but we had to go through the other caves to get there.)

More cave. See the small stalagtites on a diagonal.

Cave of the Winds

Wire mesh. (Well, so my camera thought.) Tiny stalagtites. I think these are what they call "soda straws".

I think they call this "popcorn".

Here we are: the Lantern Tour.

Eric surreptitiously admires the lovely tour guide. These are monuments to Gen. Ulysses S Grant (right) and something else. Note the ghostly face hovering above.
