Eric James Ewanco

We a major science.

Welcome to my Web Page!

I am an embedded software development engineer at NextPoint Networks (formerly Reef Point) in Billerica MA, working on fast path microcode for fixed-mobile convergence products. Previously I worked at Avici Systems Inc., a core router manufacturer; at Gotham Networks, a networking startup which formed in August 1999 and folded in June 2002, working on drivers for I/O cards of a chassis-based multiservice layer 2/3 carrier-class data communications switch; at 3Com in their remote access group occupied with developing an ATM interface for the Total Control Hub; at Xyplex Networks (now iTouch) in the Switching and Media Group; and at Digital in the Networks Products Group. At Xyplex, I worked on revisions for the 610 Ethernet Switch and on an ATM "fat pipe" interface. At Digital I worked on the VNswitch 900 and other products in the DEChub 900 Family, including the DECbrouter 90 and the DECbridge 90.

The Name

There are 824,192 people in the U.S. with the first name Eric, statistically the 52nd most popular first name (2.74% of the population). This means that it is relatively uncommon for me to come across another Eric. This is great when you're the only Eric in your company.

Personal Facts

Me and My Prius I am an orthodox Ukrainian Catholic Christian, and consider myself evangelical. I attend Our Lady of Perpetual Help Melkite Catholic Church in the Eparchy of Newton, and hang around with fellow armchair theologians and other unmarried young adults. I am involved in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, and I am very active in Catholic apologetics and evangelization. I love Contemporary Christian Music! Especially Geoff Moore, Jars of Clay, and Steven Curtis Chapman.

Being quite the logophile, I take delight in logodaedaly, but regrettably too often I am foiled by my own lethologica. If you find yourself in my vicinity, you may overhear my monological habit of hypophora, and if you converse with me, you may take note of my occasional habit of hypermimia. But please, do not be alarmed. ;-) (Do you find yourself utterly metagrobolized? A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, huh?)

I like comic strips, too, especially Dilbert, Monty, Calvin and Hobbes, and Mother Goose and Grimm.

I am originally from Fort Worth, Texas, where I graduated from the High School for Engineering Professions (at Dunbar). I graduated in December 1991 (Class of '92) from Carnegie Mellon with a degree in Computer Engineering. While I was there, was involved in the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity. On graduation I moved to metro Boston. A brief personal history of my schooling and career is available.

I have a number of hobbies, including Linux hacking (Linux rules! Linux rocks!), theatre and drama, hiking, early Christian Church studies, collecting icons, coins, and minerals, enjoying my 2005 Prius, and, of course, surfing the Web in search of more favorite sites!

Like half the population of the United States I also have a blog.

The Prophet has spoken:
The frozen north will hatch a flightless bird,
who will spread his wings and dominate the earth
And cause an empire by the sea to fall
To the astonishment, and delight of all.
